I would say, though I am very bias, go for the BN GPS. Trekker is fine, but you have to enter Braille 1 dot at a time and, unless you dish out more money for a display, there is no electronic Braille. Sendero's option is very easy to use, especially with v4.0 coming out (they are saying next week) and you have the entire BN (all your contacts, emails, files, music, everything customized) right there. I have not used a trekker, but I know it is much smaller (pocket-sized) and, as you said, has a user-replaceable battery (but how much is an extra battery?) It has the option of a Braille keyboard and output with that display HW released last year--a display with just 12 cells--whose name escapes me. It is pretty expensive (I have no exact price, but I want to say around $1000. Call HW customer service for all pricing). This message was not much help, I know, but I vote for the BN.

Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] braillenote gps or trekker, which one

Last year when I had my Nokia 7610, I tried out the Wayfinder
GPS.
Even though some Blind people maybe swear by it to me it was no
use
unless of course it was me with my pacing when walking with it
and my
first time using GPS.
Next year I am thinking of going for a system which may be more
user
friendly for the Blind but don't know which one to go for,
Braillenote
GPS or Trekker.
With Braillenote GPS, I have the advantage of at least knowing
part of
the system with me already using the Braillenote and of course
with
that I only need the GPS as an accessory to it. I also feel I can
type
fairly quickly on the Perkins style keyboard.
However my Braillenote is the 32 cell display so it is less
portable
than Trekker and looking at the Trekker user guide it appears the
Battery in the PDA can be changed easily unlike maybe with the
Braillenote but apart from a slight look at one that I know
someone
has got one I have not actually had my hands on the Trekker PDA
My father thinks I should perhaps go for the Trekker as I would
have
two pieces of equipment, one for backup if the other broke down
so I
could continue to organise my life etc ie keep appointments but I
am
not fully convinced as I have read how slow Trekker might be when
entering data for a route and he did seem to think I seemed to
struggle with entering text in my 7610 mobile phone. Also there
is the
problems of not knowing the layout and possibly paying out a lot
more
which could be used to just upgrade a system which I already have
by
just adding the GPS reciever to the Braillenote.
What would anyone suggest?
How could I go about getting a demo of both before I decide?
Would the person demonstrating the systems to me have to for
example
tempoarily install the GPS software on my Braillenote tempoarily
when
demoing it to me?
