Hello Alex and list,
I am trying this again.
I just replied a few minutes ago, and it bounced back to me. All I did was reply, so I went and looked at the E-mail address, and low and behold, I had my first experience of what some people talked about on the chat yesterday about. The Keymail program added a p at the end of the e-mail address of which all I did was reply. Anyways, I was wondering, if you or Joseph could explain why Humanware wouldn't be able to use some of the information they should have from upgrading keysoft when they went from Windows ce 2.0 to 4.02.
It seems as if this would help them and speed up the process.
Thanks for any clarification and it was a great chat session yesterday, I was having difficulty with the computer, so all I could do was listen, hopefully in the future, I will have it fixed, and be able to contribute to the discussion.
Thanks again,

Robert Stigile

They said part of the CE thing is how hard it is to get Keysoft
updated to work with the new CE code. It seems like a simple
thing, but it is way more complex than I thought. Joseph, you
can
explain this in detail if you want to.

Have a great day,
Alex

I too am annoyed when fixes come in the form of upgrades that we
have to pay
for when the feature we already paid for is very buggy (i.e.
Daisy player).
However, I have used the competitors product for 2 years and it
was so bad
that resets caused you to lose all your settings and data. At
least on the
BN when I have to do a reset, I rarely lose anything. Settings
even seem to
stay and it is rare that I even have to reset the time or date.
I may lose
something that I was currently changing but I have never lost the
whole
thing. Even though we only seem to hear the bad on this list
(because
people rarely report the good), it is still way more stable than
the
competition. People that really love their competition product
still have
all these failings I have mentioned but just choose to live with
it.

Hopefully, we can get HW to upgrade the CE version soon. It
sounds like
this is what is really holding us back. I personally wonder if
they have
been holding off because they promised classic users one more
upgrade. I
don't know because they won't say but I really hope the following
release
does have a CE upgrade.

Cindy

Thanks for the time/effort Alex. You wrote:

How many upgrades later though and at what cost to present mPower
and PK
users?

One will seriously have to look around at products offered by
competitors in this market; particularly the ones from South
Korea.

What irritates me most of all about the problem is the perpetual
need
to fix problems/dysfunction that should not have been allowed to
enter the market in the first place.
One does waste a heck of a lot of time with having to do resets.

Having said that, some really great work has been done too.

Hi all,

Below I have pasted the chat summary. It is in the format:
Q: [question/comment].
A ([answer source]): [answer/response].

Q: MSW conversion/support--not available for classic users?
A (HW): working towards more than a PDA would normally support.
Partnerships required. No future support for classics, both
because
of time and classic hardware.
Q: no Word 2003 support, now it is 2007?
A (HW): the converter has not been updated, partially due to CE
version.
Q: Upgrading CE? Virtual memory/ram problems (running out)?
A (HW): If yes, it will go to 6. It is being looked at; that is
all
they can say.
Q: stabilization?
A (HW): not in 7.5, but they are aware of it. They are currently
trying to duplicate; they need more info, especially on the
deletion
of emails when sending.
Q: cell phones as modems--access numbers?
A (other users): not much to be done.
A (HW): depends on the phone.
Q: BT stabilization?
A (HW): should improve with CE upgrade.
Q: upgrade to BT for audio/object exchange? Failing to unpair
with devices?
A (HW): audio/OE requires upgrade of CE, no comment on second
issue.
Q: stability with GPS devices?
A (Sendero): "I will not try to reinvent the wheel"--leave it to
KS
since the BT is so customized by HW.
Q: device does not authenticate with the first try?
A (Sendero): ask HW.
Q: Parallel/USB?
A (users): yes, just shop around.
Q: email sync with Outlook?
A (HW): Keysync was written for the BN instead of CE's code, but
now
they are saying they may want to switch back to CE's code.
Q: HTML emails?
A (HW): next version?
Q: IMAP4 email support?
A (HW): not sure.
Q: WPA support?
A (HW): CE upgrade.
Q: KS SDK?
A (HW): it has not been forgotten, but no definite release
either.
Q: Chat?
A (HW): comes down to priorities.
Q: Inform 7?
A (HW): possible, but priorities.
Q: more Js event handlers?
A (HW): being looked at, but no promises.
Q: PDF?
A (HW): unsure, needs to talk to Jonathan Sharpe about it.
Q: Assemble marked files (KS7.5) into an m3u playlist?
A: Never answered.
Q: percentages for file ops?
A (HW): unsure, will advise.
Q: multi-tasking?
A (HW): CE upgrade, will discuss with dev team.
Q: Mailto:link support?
A (HW): being looked at for KS 8, but no promises. KS 8 may have
several updates in the way of Keymail.
Q: Knowledgebase for KS?
A (HW): Never answered, but may use the BN list more.
Q: SDIO (wireless and so on in SD format) cards?
A (HW): CE upgrade.
Q: Upgrade to PK with latest Pronto?
A (HW): unable to answer.
Q: remote synth/terminal via USB?
A (HW): using ActiveSync for everything--use it as a medium--has
been looked at.
Q: Built-in WIFI?
A (HW): hardware upgrade required, but they see advantages as
well.
Q: Is Ambicom the only CF WIFI card still available?
A (HW): yes, but looking into USB WIFI (requires CE upgrade).
Q: combine remote synth and terminal?
A (HW): dev team knows, but the ActiveSync may open the door for
that.
Q: terminal supports QT keyboard on QT model BN/VN?
A (HW): no reason not to, but has not been tasked yet.
Q: Describe Keyview.
A (HW): a simplified visual display for PCs to replace HT.
Q: will Keyview work with PDAs?
A (HW): unsure.
Q: Keyview with USB?
A (HW): No; Keyview only uses serial and BT.
Q: new mic?
A (HW): being looked into, that and a redesign so the case does
not
cover the mic hole.
Q: external pocket on case?
A (users): agreed.
A (HW): good point.
Q: price for case too high?
A (HW): cannot comment--wrong office.
Q: Ogg files?
A (HW): looking for a plug-in for media player.
Q: Update on GPS 4.0?
A (Sendero): all on the website. Release date probably Monday,
Jul 16.
Q: is there a way to clean the BN without sending it away?
A (users): it is pretty quick.
A (HW): conventions, but feedback is required to bring back
Keyshop.
Q: More global stuff with BN?
A (HW): the U.S. market is the largest, so business comes into
it,
but it will be worked on.
Q: Eloquence troubles?
A (users): agree.
Q: IR data communication with other devices?
A (HW): unsure.
Q: So what ARE the priorities you keep mentioning?
A (HW): will not say until the release is finalized so people
will
not get upset with the company.
Q: can one put KS/WCE x.x on a custom motherboard?
A (users): yes, easily. The problem is recompiling KS to work
with
that motherboard, more specifically the processor.
Q: can all the BN family handle a CE upgrade?
A (users): no. The classic will not, but the PK and mPower can
take
it no problem.

My own conclusions?

The upgrade to Windows CE 6 is very important. The classic
cannot
take the upgrade, but the PK and mPower can. This will open the
door
for object exchane/audio with BT, PDF support, HTML email, and,
well, you can read the rest above.

Have a great day,
Alex
