Steve,

I would recommend trying a 456 reset with the cards not in the unit then if 
that fails try the 456 reset with the cards in the unit. To perform a 456 
reset, do the following:
press and hold down dots 4-5-6 (J-K-L)
Press the reset, but continue to hold down 456 (JKL)
Once you hear the second chime, let up on dots 456 (JKL)
You will hear a double tone meaning that you performed the reset correctley, 
if you don't hear the double tone, try again

Wish you the best of luck

Again, try the hard reset with the cards not in the unit then with the cards 
in the unit if it fails to still be unrecognized
