Hi Terry and All,

Sounds good to me. And, well, this is the method that I use, so as to not be confused by how and what the incremental backup does. Actually, to be correct in my case, I use this method, unless I just want to add or replace a few files, then I often just go into the backup folder as I previously described and take care of things.

Hi Vicky;
Thanks for getting back to me. It sounds to me like it is just
as easy
to do a back up as it is to deal with the incremental back ups.
If I do
a back up, after maybe my third back up, I can go in and delete
my
first. This way I will always have to back ups on file. How
does this
method sound?

Hi Terry and All,

I apologize for the delay in getting back with you; however, I'm
in Kentucky visiting my family, and have thus been attending to
things with that visit.

Seeing as I don't use the incremental backup myself, I'll let
someone else, hopefully more familiar than I, answer those
questions. As I'm guessing you already noticed, I'm writing to
the list as well, and it is primarily for the incremental backup
issues.

Now, as for the backup itself, I primarily just backup my entire
flash disk. And, I mainly just follow the prompts and select the
default options, pretty much, anyway to do so. From the main
menu, I hit the letter u for utilities. I then hit the letter b
for backup. I then hit the letter b again to say that I want to
backup rather than restore files. I then hit the letter f to
indicate that I want to backup the flash drive. I, seeing as
I've done the backups for a while, am offered all as the default
folders to backup, and so I press enter to indicate that I want
to backup all folders on the flash drive. Again, seeing as I've
done this for a while, if I have a CF card in the slot, I'll be
offered that as the drive on which to put my backup, and I'll
press enter to accept that drive. Or, one could space through
the drive list and press enter on the drive to which they wanted
to put the backup. One will then be asked for the folder in
which to put the backup, with a folder named the day's current
date being the default, for example August 14, 2007 backup for
today. One may just press enter to accept that default, or type
another folder name. One would then be told that the folder
doesn't exist and asked if they want to create the folder. And,
if one presses the letter y for yes, the folder will be created
and the backup will be started.

Now, I'll talk a bit about how I find the files within my backup
file, or maybe I should say folder. And, once I know where these
files are, I'm then able to copy or overwrite them with new files
or delete them, or just whatever I want to do with them.

Anyway, using my PK, I first hit backspace with space and the
letter w to get to the folder name prompt. Then, seeing as I'm
usually not in the specific CF drive or folder I want, I hit the
backspace once to get to the drive prompt. I then press the
letter c to get to the compact flash drive. Then, at the folder
name prompt, I space down till I find the name of my backup file.
Then, finally, I hit space with dots five six and then I'm able
to space down through the list of folders on my flash disk that
have been backed up to my CF card.----- Original Message -----

Hi Vicky;
Can you write me directly and give me detailed steps that you use
for
doing back ups. Back in 5.1, I did a few back ups. I think
Saville
Allen had me do the incremental. When I got my M-power, I tried
the old
card in the new machine and can only find one back up file and
both of
the 2 books Rhonda and I downloaded are gone. I still am lost
with the
incremental back up, does it just replace the updated files? If
so,
does it create a new file or does it update the existing file.
If it
replaces the existing incremental back up, then I should only
have the
original back up and the most recent incremental back up.
I need to start backing up my files. I also us the general
folder on my
M-power.
This issue about a notes folder is really easy. I have a file
for
different subjects like, NFB, Terry, Staff and travel when I went
to
convention. This way if it was related to work I had a place, if
it was
about the NFB it had a place and it went under my name for other
subjects.
Do I need a special folder to store the back ups in. someone's
directions said something about creating a folder for them.
Thanks for any help.
Terry Powers
