Hi Peter,
It depends on how you use it. From what I
can gather, CF (and other Flash memory
devices such as USB drives) have about a
million write/erase cycles before it starts
to fail. (Accessing the Flash drive to even
copy a file is considered write/erase cycle,
since device controller must locate the Flash
chip associated with the given location).
Usually, if you use your CF or other Flash
devices everyday, it is assumed that you can
expect from two to five (or more) years of
use before it fails.
If I've complicated matters further, let me
know (I've tried my best to explain it in
simple terms).
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] c f card
What sort of life expectancy do c f cards
have?
How much warning do you get that they're
about to expire?
Do you have to back up your back up on
another card?
Does it matter how much memory a card has as
to how long they
last?
Peter.
