It is a unique string of letters and numbers (actually a single
number in hexidecimal) that identifies your computer on a
network. No two devices on the same network will ever have the
same MAC address, so routers and other computers can know who
everyone is and talk to them accordingly. A BN cannot get the
instructions from a router that were intended for a PC, but that
will never happen because the router knows that the BN has a
specific MAC address and so will never mix it up with any other
machine.
