Ottawa Canada

Dear Kristen and list:

Pretty much any SD card (but not an SDHC cared!) will work for
the upgrade as long as it is between 64 and 512 MB capacity
inclusive.

512 MB doesn't sound like a lot of storage, and if you have a lot
of media files it isn't, but it is almost as much as a full data
CD which is around 600 MB.

My 512 MB card was $24.95 at The Source by Circuit City here in
Canada, so is probably US $19.95 at Circuit City or Radio Shack
in the USA.

If you want to put a lot of files onto one SD card, ask your
parents to buy say a 4 GB SD card or:

Say an 8 GB USB Drive which will fit into one of the USB ports on
your Mpower and will be known as the "Hard Drive" by KeySoft.

My 8 GB USB Drive with a retractable plug was $150 on sale at The
Source by Circuit City in Ottawa, Canada and would probably be
around US $129.95 at Circuit City or Radio Shack.

If you have any problems handling small things, you may find
handling a USB Drive (also known as a Thumb Drive) easier than an
SD or CF card. If in doubt, ask your parents to buy a much
cheaper 2 GB USB Drive the same shape and size as an 8 GB one and
see if you have trouble handling it, inserting and withdrawing it
and especially retracting the plug for it.

Better to spend $49.95 or so than over a hundred dollars and find
out you have trouble using it.

I copied tons of PC files onto a 2 GB USB Drive I am sending to a
friend and there is still over 1 GB free on the drive! You could
stuff a good chunk of The Library Of Congress onto an 8 GB USB
drive.

While the Mpower cannot use an SDHC card in the SD card slot,
these cards often come with an adapter to plug them into a USB
port and they work like a charm on the Mpower in a USB port with
their little adapter.

At present, SDHC cards are commonly available up to 8 GB and are
available in 16 and 32 GB as well, but these cards are brand new
in the marketplace and cost a lot.

However it is much more convenient to carry just one 32 GB SDHC
card and its USB adapter than a pocket full well eight 4 GB SD
cards!

But if you ever lose your 32 GB SDHC card, or it goes bad, you
could lose every file you have ever created in a lifetime!

Toshiba Electric is presently the only maker of 16 and 32 GB SDHC
cards.

Give it a year or so and these cards will be selling for a
quarter of their present introductory price!

So you may wish for your parents to buy one 512 MB card for the
upgrade and for use with future upgrades, and a much larger SD
card for storing your files on.

Backing up your important files to another device, such as a CF
card or USB drive is strongly recommended!

Would you want to say lose your 20-page essay for school when you
accidentally delete it or your card goes bad?

I sure don't think so!

Not sure of prevailing prices in your area. Suppose you could go
card shopping with your parents and see what different brands and
storage capacities are going for.

Hope this helps.
