Hi all.
Any idea how good it will be for recording class lectures?
I hope it doesn't restrict the size of recorded files to 30 seconds as does
K-NFB Reader. How good is the recording?

Hello List:
I spoke with Andre at Humanware, Drummondville, PQ today. He
advised me of the following:
The Victor Reader Stream is expected to ship from their
Drummondville, PQ plant on or about the middle of September 2007.
This date is approximate and may change if any unforeseen
difficulties are encountered. But it is the estimate as of this
afternoon, 22 August, 2007.
They have units in stock and if the supply of units is not
sufficient to fill all orders that have been placed for the unit,
the available units will be shared fairly among all Humanware
divisions.
These divisions are:
Australia
Canada
Europe
New Zealand
United Kingdom
United States Of America
Customers elsewhere will order directly from Drummondville, PQ.
How to order:
Please order your Victor Reader Stream from your friendly local
Humanware authorized dealer, or the Humanware division for where
you live.
Ordering on the web:
An online ordering feature will be added to the Humanware web
site. Not sure when it will be available.
The web site is:
http://www.humanware.com.
The web site will automatically route your order to the Humanware
division for where you live, based upon your address.
Audible Book Support:
This will be provided in a free downloadable firmware upgrade
expected to be available for download on or about the end of
September 2007.
NLS Book Support:
This will be built into the units when they ship from
Drummondville, PQ.
A User Authorization Key (UAK) will be required to play NLS
recorded titles. You get this from NLS and they are presently
working out the details. If it is handled like access to Web
Braille, you will obtain it from your friendly participating
regional library.
Unlike R. F. B. and D. digital books, the NLS UAK will only need
to be installed once. Thereafter, you don't need to key in a
password to play NLS titles. You just play them like a regular
book.
Please note that NLS will only provide a UAK to eligible NLS
patrons.
At the present time, this consists of persons living lawfully in
the United States of America, its territories and possessions and
American citizens who live elsewhere.
When NLS begins providing digital titles on their memory
cartridges, Humanware will make an optional, extra charge, NLS
memory cartridge adapter available for the Stream. This
accessory is expected to be available in 2008 around the time NLS
begins shipping titles on memory cartridges.
When you connect the NLS memory cartridge to your Stream, Andre
thinks the Stream will copy the book files onto the SD card,
still encrypted. When this process is completed, you may remove
the NLS memory cartridge from the adapter and send or take it
back to where it came from. Then NLS can either put another
title on the cartridge or send the one you sent back to someone
else that wants that title.
Neat eh?
The NLS Memory Cartridge Adapter is expected to sell for around
$15.
R. F. B. and D. Book Support:
This will be built into the units when they leave Drummondville,
PQ.
A User Authorization Key (UAK) is required to play R. F. B. and
D. digital titles. You will obtain this UAK from R. F. B. and D.
You install the key and whenever you wish to play an R. F. B. and
D. digital title, you will be required to key in the password.
Please note that R. F. B. nd D. will provide a UAK only to
eligible borrowers, which at present consist of persons living
lawfully in the United States of America, its territories and
possessions, and American citizens living elsewhere.
AC Power:
The AC adapter for the Stream will operate on 120-240 volt, 50 or
60 Hz mains. If you live in Canada or the USA, you will get an
adapter with a two-flat blade, parallel prong plug, like most
other appliances you own.
If you take your Stream and charger to somewhere where they use
say, French, British, German or Korean plugs, you must buy a
Passive Adapter, also known as a prong adapter, to plug your
charger into the electric mains where you are going.
These adapters are available from your friendly local store that
sells electrical goods for people who travel to other countries,
but if you have trouble finding the adapter you need, please
contact Humanware Canada and they will endeavour to get one for
you. There will be a charge for this service.
