Hi Brian,

Thanks for bringing these problems to our attention. At the
moment (the morning of Monday, September 3rd), we at Duxbury are
in the last day of a 3-day holiday weekend (our Labor Day), so
the office is closed and communication with us and even among us
is likely to go unnoticed until tomorrow. (I just happened to
check my email for other reasons.)

As you suggest, if Humanware does not immediately spot the source
of the problem, then they'll surely be in touch with us and we'll
be glad to work with them to track it down and together we'll
make it right for everybody. I imagine it will be easy, because
the reported problems are so large and pervasive that it's almost
certainly something basic and simple that is going wrong. From
the symptoms, my guess is that something we call the "state" is
not being preserved correctly through the translation. For
example, dot 6 followed by "y" should be recognized as the "ally"
contraction only when it follows letters, never at the beginning
of a word -- otherwise, depending on other context issues, it is
either the word "You" or just a capital "Y". The "state"
remembers whether or not letters have occurred, among other
things, to the immediate left of the braille being translated to
print, and if it has not been set (or preserved from the
immediately preceding translation) correctly, you could get the
effects that have been reported.

Please feel free to quote this reply to the list if you think it
appropriate to do so.

All the best,
Joe
