Hi,

It should not be used on a regular basis as it is synonymous to removing and replacing the battery whilst the BrailleNote is operational which has the same effect as switching off a computer whilst read/write operations to a disk are in progress: the disk is unusable without a reformat resulting in entire data loss. Fortunately, such a reset can only be performed on a BrailleNote MPower as it involves holding down the reset and record buttons at the same time.

"Yesterday her braille note reset and then would not turn on. Then today she plugged it in and it happened again after she was working with a cf card and removed it. Any idea what is going on?" As I understood it, your friend's BrailleNote is resetting by itself after being switched off and switched back on again. This is not a service reset, this is a regular soft reset. I don't know why it happens but I think it has something to do with turning the unit off whilst the PC card is still spinning. I suggest waiting for about thirty seconds after returning to the Main Menu before switching the unit off. Let me know if that fixes the problem.
