Terry, I'm not Vicky, but according to the manual when compatibility mode is set to on, some of the keystrokes resemble that of the BrailleLyte. This is so that users who have used the BrailleLyte can still feel comfortable when using a BrailleNote for the first time as the keys will be familiar to them. Hope that helps.
