Terri;
This is a very old message of yours. I thought the thumb keys were for
navigation. In your message, you did not make it clear how you used the
thumb keys to change modes. I am using an m-power now.

The thumb-key command changes the braille display mode. The BN has four
braille display modes:
The default mode is automatic. When the BN is in this mode, it will
automatically choose either the editing mode or the reading mode. It
will change from mode to mode, depending on whether you are writing,
reading or both. One moment, you will be in the reading mode, another
moment you will be in the editing mode.
The next mode is the layout mode. When you turn this mode on, the
documents appear in computer braille exactly as you have created them.
In this mode, the line endings will appear as dollar p.
The reading mode is the third mode. When you turn this mode on, you see
the text and the line endings appear the way you want them to be.
The editing mode is the last mode. All of the text is in the preferred
reading grade. You'll see all of the formatting codes you have put into
your documents including tabs, fonts, layout changes, etc. Some codes
will not appear until you route the cursor to them.
If you want the BN to be in reading mode and not change modes until you
command it to, then you can use the thumb-keys. But when you turn it
off and then turn it on again, the BN will go back to the default mode,
which is the automatic mode.
The option of changing line endings in reading mode only applies when
the BN is in reading mode. The option must be set using the options
menu. If you are in editing or layout mode, the line endings will
appear as dollar p or dollar l.
To fully understand what I'm trying to say, read sections 3.12, 3.12.1,
3.12.2, 3.12.3, 3.12.4 and 5.4.2. The best way to read these sections
is to use the manual in the Keysoft system disk and read them either
using Keyword or Keybook.
