Subject: [Braillenote] More thoughts, am I saying goodbye?
This was meant for the list but I sent it to Vicky so am now sending to the
list.
Hi Vicky and list,
I think you wrote a very respectable post here. I like product comparisons
as much as the next person! I think we should exercise some respect for
Humanware since they are providing this excellent list! I know what I'd
like to say but I'm not certain I should! But then, if it brings back what
Dean originally had in mind so be it!
I sold both of my Braille Note M-power units. Once I find a missing
shipping carton with all the accessories, they are out of here! I have my
unit packed up but I'm trying to find my wife's shipping carton. We both
have the Voice Sense and we feel it is far superior for what we normally do
on the net. The Wy Fi and Bluetooth are built in. We miss the braille
display though! The battery is user replaceable! It is a very powerful
machine for its size! Music files sound wonderful through headphones! When
a stream can play, it plays nicely! I was at a convention this past
weekend. I had my VS up and running on the hotel wireless network in less
than a minute, perhaps two minutes at the most. Whether I was on the fourth
floor in my room or in the middle of the meeting room, I could download
Email with ease or go to various web sites and audio streams. This
experience was truly amazing to me. I only charged the battery twice and it
wasn't fully discharged. I was away from home from Thursday afternoon till
midnight Sunday. I left all Email on the server and had over five hundred
messages in my unit. Each of these were numbered so I could keep track of
them. I only got my new Email when downloading more of it. I had no
problems with many of the messages I received but there are some HTML and
Mime format that the unit won't read. It has its issues too. It won't read
daisy books at all presently even though this is being worked on. I believe
there is more right with this unit than wrong! I simply didn't have to
worry about those Wy Fi cards. The memory available for downloading audio
files is awesome! I have a gigabyte to play with, (1,014 megabytes. The
unit can fit in the palm of my hand and go an inch or so beyond the edge of
my palm.
If I had to choose between a Pacmate and a BN M-power, I'd still choose the
M-power. But I think the Voice Sense could pass up both of them for a
variety of reasons! I can't complain! My M-power has been a fine machine
and will continue to be so for my friends who bought both mine and my wife's
units. I still have two classic units. I will attempt to figure out what
I should do with them. One has dots five and seven sticking in cell eleven.
The other seems to be okay but the display doesn't come up as it should.
May upgrade one or both units, I really don't know! Speaking only for me, I
feel I have solved my technology problems. At least, as far as a portable
unit is concerned. It is hard to say goodbye to a company who has treated
me very well but I guess it is time to move on. Perhaps I may buy a Victor
Stream. I'm like a kid with a new toy and I'm still discovering all of its
hidden treasures!
You can hang me now and you have every right to do so! Just keep the
firestorm down if you can! If you have questions, please feel free to write
me privately. I will still be on list till I no longer have a Braille note
in my possession. No piece of technology is perfect but I'm very happy with
my new purchase! I have nothing against the M-power even though it would be
nice if Wy Fi could be internal as is bluetooth.
Thanks for reading!
Jim Aldrich
