Hi Ann and All,

Ordinarily, I would agree with your remarks below. However, what with
HumanWare being so lax in their communication with us in recent times, guess
I'm appreciative of any HW info that is sent my way these days. Of course,
I would want info that is based on facts, or at least based on facts to the
extent possible.

In regards to HW shifting away from the BrailleNote family; well, although I
can't say for sure that they are indeed doing just that, the signs have
certainly been there for quite sometime. There is the lack of regular
participation on this list by HW staff for starters. However, it doesn't
stop there by any means. There is the other article that Sharon forwarded a
couple of months ago which talked about HW focus being more on main stream
products which blind people are able to use. There is also the new HW web
site where, although one isn't able to purchase the BN family products
online, one is able to purchase the newer HW products that way. And, too,
although I wouldn't want a BN product that didn't work properly, and thus
would want HW to take their time to get things right, it sure seems as if
production/improvements have slowed down for the BN family lately.

Finally, I do believe there was a URL included with the story Sharon sent
last night; however, it didn't seem to work for some reason. However, using
Google, I was able to find a URL that did work. So, below, I'll post the
links to both articles, first the one a couple of months ago, and then the
one sent yesterday. I'll post both the regular URL, as well as a smaller
one courtesy of Tinyurl.com:

Subject: [Braillenote] Humanware news we didn't know

Hi all,

Sharon, could you please clarify. What is a "Blationews mailing list?
When did this News come down? Shouldn't you have waited for the staff
at Humanware to make this announcement, if, indeed it is true? I'm a
cynical old Netizen, and just because it's on the net, doesn't
necessarily make it true. I didn't see any URL for this story. I
didn't see any verification yet. Far as I'm concerned, the jury's out
till we hear from Humanware.

However, if the story is true, Where does this leave production of the
BrailleNote? I thought they were manufactured in New Zealand. Are
they still going to be manufactured there? Is Humanware moving away
from the BrailleNote's production? Are they concentrating on DAISY
players and PDA's? This seems to be a major change whose
ramifications are not quite understood yet.

I think I'm going to wait and see what happens.

Ann P.
