OK, after all that my questions were not answered. Also what of those who already have Build 20 installed on their M Power machines. How does one install the Build 27? Hernandez'; 'Bn List' Subject: RE: [Braillenote] upgrading instructions (Link not work) Frank and all, Here are the directions to upgrade on the mPower: KeySoft 7.5 BrailleNote and VoiceNote mPower Installation Instructions These instructions are for the BrailleNote mPower and VoiceNote mPower only. There are separate instructions for the PK and Classic. Ensure that you are using the appropriate instructions. It is essential that you read all of the following instructions before starting the installation. You might like to transfer them to another computer, emboss, or print them for reference during the installation process. Should something go wrong during or after the installation, troubleshooting information is provided at the end of this document. What you will need to install the Upgrade. As well as your mPower, you will need the following: 1. An SD card. This must be at least 64 megabytes in size and no more than 512 megabytes. You must use an SD card in the SD card slot of the mPower for the installation. It must be prepared as described in the 'Preparing the SD card' section below. 2. An internet connection for downloading the software and a way to copy it onto the SD card. You can download it directly onto the SD card using your mPower or download it using a PC with an internet connection and an SD card reader. There are 3 files to download, two small ones and a large one that is over 40 Megabytes in size, so if you are using a dial-up connection then it will take 2 hours or more. If you have faster access, then it's preferable to use it. Warnings. The following warnings are very important. Please read and follow. HumanWare strongly recommends that you backup your Flash Disk before performing the installation. Throughout the installation, your mPower must remain connected to the AC adapter at all times. Do not switch off, reset the unit, or remove the SD card at any time while the installation is in progress. Once the installation commences, you must let it run to completion. Stopping the installation part way through may cause the mPower to stop functioning and require you to send it back for service. Preparing the SD card. IMPORTANT: You MUST use the following procedure to prepare the SD card before proceeding with the upgrade. This procedure erases all existing data from the card, so if your card contains data you want to keep, copy it to somewhere else before proceeding. 1. Insert the SD card into the SD card slot on the back of the unit. 2. From the Main Menu choose Utilities by pressing U. 3. From the Utilities Menu choose "Application program" by pressing A. 4. When prompted for "Run program from which drive?", choose "KeySoft System Disk" by pressing K. At the prompt, "Directory name?", type Windows and press ENTER. You will then be prompted for "Program Name?". Choose "Prepare SD Card for Upgrade" from the List of Programs. 5. When prompted for "Command Line?" press ENTER. You will then be asked for confirmation to continue and warned that continuing will erase the entire contents of your SD card. To continue, press Y. Within a couple of seconds you should hear the response that the preparation of the SD card was successful. Downloading the Software For this upgrade, there are three pieces of software you need to download: 1. The product key for your mPower. 2. The bootloader file. 3. The Keysoft 7.5 software package. Downloading the Product Key 1. On a PC or your mPower, go to: http://www.humanware.com/support/braillenote/keysoft_7.5_upgrade 2. Select the link called "Product Key Download". 3. Enter your serial number and the password frog1 in the appropriate fields. Make sure the radio button called "KeySoft 7.5 key" is checked, then press Enter on the Download button. 4. Save the Product Key file to a known location on your PC, or if you are using the mPower, download it directly into the "none" folder (root directory) of the SD card. 5. If you have downloaded onto a PC, copy the Product Key file to the "none" folder (root directory) of the previously prepared SD card. Do not copy it into a folder on the card. Downloading the Bootloader 1. On a PC or your mPower, go to: http://www.humanware.com/support/braillenote/keysoft_7.5_upgrade 2. Select the link called "mPower Bootloader Download" to download the file called "eboot.bin". 3. Save the bootloader file, called "eboot.bin" to a known location on your PC, or if you are using the mPower, download it directly into the none folder (root directory) of the SD card. 4. If you have downloaded onto a PC, copy "eboot.bin" to the "none" folder (root directory) of your previously prepared SD card. Do not copy it into a folder on the card. Downloading the KeySoft 7.5 Upgrade file. 1. On a PC or your mPower, go to: http://www.humanware.com/support/braillenote/keysoft_7.5_upgrade 2. Select the link called "KeySoft 7.5 mPower Download" to download the file called NK.bin. 3. Save the NK.bin file to a known location on your PC, or if you are using the mPower, download it directly into the "none" folder (root directory) of the SD card. The file is large (over 40 Megabytes) so if you are using a dial-up connection downloading will take 2 hours or more. 4. If you have downloaded onto a PC, copy the NK.bin file to the "none" folder (root directory) of the previously prepared SD card. Do not copy it into a folder on the card. Installing the Software It is necessary to do this in three stages. Before proceeding, please make sure you have the three necessary files in the "none" folder (root directory) of your SD card. 1. Ensure that your mPower is switched on, the AC Adapter is connected, and the SD card is inserted in the card slot on the back of the mPower. 2. Check that there are no cards in the other slots, that is, the CF and PCMCIA. 3. If you haven't already, insert the SD card in the slot on the back of your mPower. Installing the Product Key 1. On your mPower, go to the Utilities Menu then select the option called "Install KeySoft extension". Browse the file list on your SD card and press Enter on the file containing your product key. 2. Follow the instructions given by KeySoft. 3. After the product key is installed, you will hear a completion message. Press ENTER again as advised. You are returned to the Utilities menu. Installing the Bootloader 1. Press and hold dots 4 and 6 on the Braille keyboard (keys J and L on the QWERTY), and press the reset button on the left side of the unit, just behind the on/off switch. Keep holding down dots 4 and 6 (keys J and L on the QWERTY) until you hear 5 rising tones, at which point you can release the held down keys. 2. On a Braille keyboard press dots 1 and 2 (the letter B) or on a QWERTY keyboard type the digit 2 on the number row. 3. The bootloader will take only a couple of seconds to install, after which you will hear the rising tones again. Installing the Software Package. 1. Press and hold dots 4 and 5 on the Braille keyboard (keys J and K on the QWERTY), and press the reset button on the left side of the unit, just behind the on/off switch. Keep holding down dots 4 and 5 (keys J and K on the QWERTY) until the unit makes a sound, at which point you can release the held down keys. 2. Note that if you have a Braille display, your mPower will shortly display: "Loading." in Grade 1 Braille and a percentage that increases as the loading stage progresses. Your mPower will then display: "Erasing.", in Grade 1 Braille, followed by a percentage. A short while later, your mPower will display: "Writing." and the same percentage as displayed previously. Note that your mPower will continue to display "Writing." and the same percentage indicator as displayed previously until KeySoft starts. 3. At the completion of the beeps (about 10 to 15 minutes), the new version of KeySoft will automatically start. Check that Version 7.5 is shown as the version number. 4. If you have KeySoft extensions installed, you may get a prompt like "System files have been updated. Press reset." If KeySoft does not specify the type of reset required, press the reset button with no keys held down. Troubleshooting. If you do not hear anything for 30 seconds or more after starting the installation: 1. Ensure that the mains plug and AC adapter are inserted correctly. 2. Check that the SD card is correctly inserted into the slot at the back of the unit. 3. Ensure that there is no "PDIBoot.exe" file on the SD card. 4. Restart the upgrade procedure by following the instructions from the beginning of the section, 'Installing the Upgrade.' If you have other problems during or after the installation, please contact your Distributor. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Frank M.
