Yes, it is required to use SD cards between 64MB and 512MB to perform the 
upgrade. The capacity of cards being reported lower than
it actually is something not specific to the BrailleNotes rather to the cards. 
All cards have a certain amount of space allocated
towards other uses and are not accessible to the users, depending on the format 
more or less space will not be accessible. There is
a lot more complexity to this matter but this is the just of it.

  The Sd card you mentioned is the same as a 1Gb.  For some 
reason, the Bn always gives less than it actually is.  Chuck and 
I have always been told not to use anything bigger than a 256mb.  
Our suggestion would be to follow HumanWare's instructions on 
this: especially if you keep up maintainance agreements and need 
something fixed.
