The books have to be put on a cf,sd, usb thumb drive or something like that from the computer. They need to be coppied over to one of the devices that can be plugged into the bn. As for how many books I guess that would depend on how much room was on the drive like a 1 gig might only hold one or two books if that.
I hope this answers your questions I have not tried it as of yet.
