Here are the new recordings: * The Long awaited, much anticipated episode of BrailleNote Podcast is now online - in this third edition, I cover Options Menu. Because of time and storage considerations, it is in two parts: A. Part 1 introduces Options Menu,steps through each item for brief intro and takes a look at Braille Options (formerly Braille Display Options). B. Part 2 continues from Part 1 and covers Keyboard Settings, Review Voice and other items. Few notes: * Connectivity: although I mentioned it, it is planned to be covered on a separate podcast. * Speech volume: there might be some differences in speech volume between these two recordings. On the first part, the keyboard is somewhat quieter; this is because I used my desktop to record it, using a line-in patch cord (like I've done) and microphone was far away from the keyboard. On the second part, the keyboard is considerably louder; this is because I used my laptop to record this podcast, connecting my speaker cord to my BN's headphone jack and placing my BrailleNote closer to the microphone. * Also, another BrailleNote Chat is up on the BGZ site - many people requested that I upload the Fourth BrailleNote Chat (conducted on September 2007); now, it is here. This time, it is in two parts, owing to the fact that I conducted multiple chats over two days. These above recordings can be found at usual location: www.blind-geek-zone.net, then go to Audio link, then find a heading called "New Posts." Few notes of interests: * I "discovered" that Micro SD cards works well with BrailleNote. I bought a Sandisk 1 GB Micro SD card, intending to use on my Samsung Blackjack running Windows Mobile 5 and MobileSpeak Smartphone, but it apparently did not insert correctly; fortunately, this little fingernail-sized card came with a standard SD card adapter. So I connected my Micro SD card to this SD adapter and inserted into my BrailleNote's SD slot and KeySoft automatically said "SD Card Ready." Just like regular SD cards, High Capacity (HC) Micro SD cards does not work with BrailleNote. The highest capacity that I heard of this card is about 6 GB (and 2 GB for normal cards). * I finally found out why one cannot use BrailleNote as a display under Vista: it is due to the way the com ports are set up. Previously under XP, whenever a virtual serial port is created, Witcom assumes that it is both an outgoing (meaning that a screen reader such as JAWS will be able to connect to one's BN) and incoming port (where BrailleNote can connect to one's PC). Under Vista, it is different: when you are adding a virtual com port, you need to specify which "direction" the com port will use (either incoming, where a device such as BrailleNote will be able to connect to your computer, or outgoing, where another program on your computer will be able to connect to your BrailleNote. While you can create an incoming port, you cannot create an outgoing port unless you have a supported device that offers some services (BrailleNote is not one of them). I (or someone) would be able to find a work around, but as of now, the reason for unavailibility of Bluetooth display under Vista stand thus. * I also managed to connect my BraillenOte to a smartphone running MobileSpeak Smartphone (those of us who are running MSS or who are on MobileSpeak mailing list will recognize what I am talking about).
