John, 

It is possible to store the maps for the GPS application anywhere including the 
PC card slot, SD card, USB thumb drive, USB hard
drive and many more locations. The important thing is to tlel the system where 
to look for the map files. Generally, you will just
want to copy the map files to what other media you decide.
