Andy, if you don't have enough serial ports on your computer, purchase a USB-TO-SERIAL adapter and it should work. But I do agree with you that it is about time BrailleNote and related products begin TAKING A HARD LOOK at USB interface.

Unfortunately, these devices ARE NOT ALONE in the dark on this one. For the past three days or so, I have been CONFIGURING FOR A RETAIL OUTLET a PinPad that you can use to ENTER YOUR PIN when you make purchases with a Debit card. I had two big problems: The POS software being used ONLY SUPPORTS up to Comport6 and the developers stated that they DO NOT SUPPORT USB-TO-SERIAL devices, the PinPad MUST BE PLUGGED DIRECTLY to a PC's serial port. Sadly enough, there were ONLY TWO SERIAL PORTS on the system board of the computer in question. With much fuss, I connected the PinPad to a USB-TO-SERIAL adapter and voila, it worked. I proved the developers wrong.

So, when companies like Verifone, Talento, Citizen, Linkpoint and others are STILL BEHIND HE TIMES ... you guessed it ... it will take longer than a day for refreshable Braille notetakers to keep up!!

Sincerely,
Olusegun
