Subject: [Braillenote] PK flash disk not available

Hi All,

First, grin, the flash disk on my PK is indeed available, at
least for now. However, as those of you who have been on the
list for awhile know, the PK flash disk can disappear on
occasion. And, mine as been no exception in this regard.

Anyway, you might also recall that some of us have avoided
sending our units back to Humanware by connecting our PK to our
PC via its serial port, and then going into Hyperterminal on the
PC and issuing some commands to restore the flash disk to the PK.
However, in my case, my LapTalk PC that I had for over the last
four years finally quit working. And, I replaced it with a
Toshiba laptop, a laptop that doesn't have a serial port.

Thus, after all this, as I'm reasonably sure my PK flash disk
will die again at some point, I'm wondering if anyone has
restored their flash disk without having to connect the PK to the
PC via a serial port? I'm guessing it can't be done by Usb, as
Dean Jackson told me it had to be the serial port when he first
showed me how to fix this problem. So, if nothing has changed
since then, and I'm guessing it hasn't, perhaps someone has fixed
this problem with their PK via a serial to USB adapter? Oh, I'm
using the Windows Vista Premium operating system on this new PC.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.
