Sixty percent of all Braille PDA sales in the world? May I ask
from where you got that figure? I don't doubt you, just kind of
surprised this figure is still so high.

BrailleNote?BELLYACHING!

Well I don't work for Humanware, but if I had to say whether they
care about the BrailleNote, I'd say yes, they do.
This is because it represents 60% of the Braille PDA sales in the
entire world!
That is an awful lot of units and represents a major chunk of
Humanware's annual sales.
True, you can get a better price on a wireless card and other
accessories for your BN or VN elsewhere.
So if you know somewhere with lower prices, and like ordering
from them then fine, order online or by telephone and save some
money.
Humanware is said to carry wireless, Ethernet and other cards as
mainly a convenience to their customers. Some people like
ordering everything in one phone call or web site visit. Others
like getting the best price they can find.
Oh have a look at what some web merchants charge for shipping and
handling, especially if you want other than UPS Ground. Many
don't just pass on their costs, they surcharge.
Humanware has explained several times that trying to provide good
Word file support in Key Edit is hitting moving target.
Microsoft apparently does major rewrites of their file spec for
each major release of Word.
As someone else has said, if you want the functionality of a
laptop, go and buy one! I recently bought a little 12 inch Dell
laptop that does everything including cook dinner. However not
even it is as compact and has a Braille display as my Mpower QT
32.
If Braille is important to you then buy a BrailleNote. If you
want similar functionality without a Braille display, buy a
VoiceNote.
If you think G. W. Micro or Freedom Scientific or Baum of
Germany
make something you like better then have a thorough hands-on
trial of the product, note what it does, what it doesn't do and
try other products. The one you can afford that you feel is
best, buy it!
That is all what a free market is about! If Humanware or someone
else doesn't make good stuff that people think is best for them,
it won't sell for any money, Humanware will discontinue the
product and if they can't sell anything people think is useful,
they'll shrivel up and go out of business!
But do remember Humanware provides this list for us to post our
comments, tips and tricks about their products to. If you must
bellyache about their products, please do so by private e-mail or
somewhere else.
And yes, they do keep tabs on what is being discussed on this
list. They may not always reply as they do have other things to
do, like run a business and work on new products and bug fixes,
but I do know for a fact they do read the list!
Take care.
Brian
