Hi Marissa,
I'm sort of replying to my own message...
Few things: what kind of BrailleNote do you have (a BrailleNote/VoiceNote mPower, a BrailleNote/VoiceNote Classic, a BrailleNote PK)? What kind of keyboard (BT (braille) or QT (computer style) keyboard)? What version of KeySoft do you have? The answers to these questions would help "the experts" answer your questions using correct commands and explanations.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Alex and Marissa,
To Marissa: welcome to the world of
BrailleNote and KeySoft. I hope this list
would be a tremendous resource for you.
As Alex stated, you need to find out settings
such as your username and password, POP and
SMTP servers and ports and whether your email
provider uses secure connection.
I guess I should start recording the next
episode of the BrailleNote Podcast this
Saturday - I'm skipping Word Processor and
going directly to Connectivity due to many
requests. Word Processor is, in my opinion,
the hardest program to base my tutorials on
(I'm talking about demonstrating correct
features and not misleading people with wrong
commands and/or wrong explanations). And
since I thought connectivity would be easier,
I deciged to postpone recording KeyWord
episode until later date. After Connectivity
and Email, I might just go ahead and go
directly to File Manager, then to Planner and
Address List in the end.
There is a website that describes few
connectivity and email terms. It is called
BrailleNote PBWiki, which is located at
braillenote.pbwiki.com. There, under Support
Hotline link, you should find useful articles
on Connectivity and Internet/Email. (Just
for reference, Marissa).
Cheers,
Joseph p.S. Answer this offlist: Do I know
you from BCT list/website? (your name sounds
familiar).

This will depend on who provides your email
service; Roadrunner,
aol, yahoo, gmail, and so on. You go to the
keymail menu, hit s,
hit d, then either a to add a new account or
l to look up one you
have already started. What information are
you missing? You will
need your username (your email address but
without the at sign
and everything that comes after it), your
email password (which
you should have been told to provide when
setting up your email
with your provider), your pop and smtp names
(this can change
depending on the provider, but said provider
should be able to
tell you) and then the rest is just up to
you--your name, email
address, all that. The only other thing to
be careful of is
whether your provider requires ssl (secure
socket layer). If so
you will need those settings as well, which
your provider can
also give you. Let us know if this does not
help, and don't
worry about telling me that it did not--just
keep asking until
you get the right answer and don't worry
about offending anyone.
The people on this list are generally quite
hard to offend.

Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] Configuring e-mail

Hi all,

My name is Marissa. I am a singer/songwriter
from New York. I
am new to
this list I just joined today, and I am also
new to the Humanware
family
of PDAs. I was wondering if anyone could
help me configure my
e-mail? I
have my internet connected up through Active
Sync right now, but
plan to
get a wireless CF card soon. I cannot for
the life of me figure
out how to
configure my settings correctly. When I do
try and connect to my
e-nail I
get error 11001. If anyone could assist me,
I would be very
grateful!
thank you again, and have a wonderful day!

Musically,
Marissa
