Hi Lori,

I have a student that is using a Braillenote classic. It is running ver. 4.01. I know it is very old but it hasn't been really used until this year. Here's my problem. For some reason teh wrong spell checker was installed. It does not have the English USA which we need. The Braillenote itself is acting kind of flaky also. When I called tech support, they tried a bunch of stuff, but nothing helped. They want me to erase the software using Active synch and then press reset and have it restore itself. I can do all that but here is my problem. They told me I needed to use Active Synch version 3.8. I downloaded it and installed it but for some reason it will not locate the Brallenote. I have tried it on 2 different computers with no luck. I go to my computer and click on moble device. The computer searches but does not find it. I have also gone to the utilities menu on the braillenote and clicked on connect to active synch. No luck.
Any suggestions. I really don't want to send this in if I don't have to.
Thank you all in advance for your help.
Lori

Are you using the cable that came with the BrailleNote or an ordinary serial cable? I may be wrong on this, but I think that the cable that came with that old BN is supposed to be a null modem cable. Using the wrong cable type or a cable that's malfunctioning could certainly give you lots of grief beyond activesync's inherent tendency to be a tremendous pain in the posterior. Even with a proper cable, I found activesync to be dicey at best, which is why I avoid it like the plague even now.
