Margret, When receiving a message about checking if the data ffiles are present, this means that you will want to make sure that the Oxford Concise Dictionary and Thesaurus files are readable by the BrailleNote. This usually means that you have the CompactFlash that the Dictionary came with inserted into the unit.

I get the message that it cannot open the dictionary, to check that the data files are available. I've tried reinstalling the dictionary, but that doesn't help. Has anyone else encountered this and what can I do about it? ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
