To Ethan and Alex,
Thanks for this information as I missed it originally but my actual request was intended for a global search of the contents of multiple files where I remember saving some information but not the file name I used when I created the file. A similar situation comes up if I have many NLS web braille magazine files in brf format but don't remember which issue contains an article of interest I am looking for. Yes, I know I can open each issue and check the table of contents but I am looking for a way to have the note taker do the dirty work.
Thanks
Richard Ehrler

You can search your entire system for file names (not text in a
file) using dos. Use the "application program" option in the
utilities menu and select your keysoft system disk, then the
windows folder. Press enter on "cmd.exe" and, when you see
"command line?", type (where [filename.ext] is your filename with
your extension; use * for wildcard):
/c dir /s [filename.ext] > search.txt
Now there will be a few seconds of slow operating while the bn
searches in the background, then a file called "search.txt" will
appear in the none folder of your keysoft system disk (you can
type in a new path and filename in place of search.txt). In This
file are the results of your search. Remember to enclose paths
and names in quotes if they contain spaces. It is nowhere near
as good as having a built-in search, but it is something.

Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] request for a global find command

To Humanware staff and note taker programmers:
I know this has been suggested several times over the past few
years but still not implemented. It would be very useful to have
a more or less global find command in our note takers. At a
minimum it should be able to search through all files in a folder
for a specified text string. It would be nice if one could also
limit the search with a file name mask that could use wild cards
to restrict searching to files that fit the mask, such as
"chapter??.txt" or "*.brf" and such. I would be careful about
making a global find and replace available because I have run
into too many circumstances where files I didn't intend to modify
were changed buy such a command on other devices but a global
find would be great to quickly find information lost among dozens
or hundreds of files on a specified drive or at least in a
specified folder. Any chance we could get something like this in
a future update?
Thank you
Richard Ehrler
