I don't know if this has been mentioned as haven't followed all of this thread, but using vista home premium and ie7, if you go to the www.google.com page, you don't even see a link for classic. So,they must be detecting your browser and os.

But, they seem to always be playing around with something.

When one goes to the default Google site on their BN, as Peggy already mentioned, they can select the classic site and things work just fine. Although, as someone else mentioned, the page is just a bit more cluttered that way. So, something else one can try is to go to that classic site as discussed. Then, on that site, there should be a mobile link. One can then enter on that mobile link and then use the search box from that mobile site to get a less cluttered page, or just add that mobile link to their favorites for future use.
