Ottawa Canada Dear Alice and List:
The BrailleNote/VoiceNote require shop service to replace the battery. This is because it is connected to the battery wires by soldered connections. If you had a suitable battery, don't mind voiding your PMA if you have one and are a real hot shot with an 800 degree F. soldering iron, you could open the unit up and replace it yourself. But if you make a mistake and your beloved BN is toast, don't say you weren't warned! Just do a backup of your important files before you send your unit in for battery replacement. This also gives the techs an opportunity to generally inspect the unit and advise if Braille display cleaning or other service is required or just recommended. Hope this answers your questions fully.
