Dear Alice and List:

The BrailleNote/VoiceNote require shop service to replace the
battery.  This is because it is connected to the battery wires by
soldered connections.

If you had a suitable battery, don't mind voiding your PMA if you
have one and are a real hot shot with an 800 degree F. soldering
iron, you could open the unit up and replace it yourself.

But if you make a mistake and your beloved BN is toast, don't say
you weren't warned!

Just do a backup of your important files before you send your
unit in for battery replacement.  This also gives the techs an
opportunity to generally inspect the unit and advise if Braille
display cleaning  or other service is required or just
recommended.
