Hi,
There is a problem when erasing a copy of the Address List when
that copy is on the Flash disk.
I have a BN BT32 v7.5.29, but I imagine this would happen on
earlier versions and other types of BN/VN.
Before doing this test, I took a full backup of the Flash disk,
and a copy of the Address List on to CF card.
(Then I removed the CF card from the BN).
Copied the Address List database to a folder on Flash called
copies.
Did file directory of both Keylist and copies folders and all
database and definitions files appeared correct in size and date.
Went to copies and erased the definitions file.
I was asked if definitions or database file or both, chose both.
Asked if sure about definitions, said yes.
Asked if sure about database, said yes.
Said 1 file and 1 database erased.
Then I checked file directory of copies, which showed no
definitions, but the .cdb file was still there.
File directory Keylist, no .cdb but definitions file remained,
but this one from 23 Aug 2007 and 0 records.
(Before the copy it had been 5 Oct 2008 and 146 records).
So 1 definitions file and 1 .cdb were erased, but not exactly the
ones that should have been.
I also did not expect the definitions file to be changed in
Keylist.
This is not good.
An example of why you might want to copy the Address List, then
delete it later is as follows.
If you were to make a major update to the data in your Address
List, you might copy it in case it went wrong.
Having done it all successfully, you erase the now out of date
copy.
Work arounds:-
1. Copy to a card or memory stick instead.
The erase of that copy does not then effect the Keylist original.
2. When you erase the copy on Flash, use file directory and
<space>x twice to get all files including hidden.
(Don't know what QT is).
Then erase the .cdb with <backspace>c, then the definitions file
with <backspace>c also.
When offered the choice use "f" for definitions file only.
So then I tried to tidy up.
File directory of copies folder and erased the database file with
<backspace>c.
File directory of Keylist folder where there was now that old
definitions file and also a database file, 48KB (smaller than the
one I had copied which was 72KB), and time stamped probably when
I deleted the database file in copies.
Went into the KeyList application to check it but was told the
database didn't exist, I didn't create one.
Used file directory of Keylist again and <backspace>c to erase
the definitions file and then the database file.
Was warned this time that the .cdb file was hidden did I still
want to erase.
When I said yes, the BN said it was in use by another process.
Reset the BN, then could erase it.
Finally, inserted the CF card, and copied the Address List
database back from there to Flash.
That brought back the Address List as it should be.
I did this twice just to make sure what had happened.
(All the file directories I used were for all files including
hidden.
All copy databases were a file copy on the definitions file which
also copies the associated .cdb file).
I tried the same with the "ham radio log" database in Keybase,
and the erase deleted just the definitions and database file in
"copies", as expected.
Regards,
Steve.
