Hi:

I use the USB ports for printing, memory-storage, 
and with a recording device;  but, it should be able 
to deal with microphones and speakers just so long 
as the device does not draw too much electricity 
from the BrailleNote.   I have used the USB port to 
charge a Zen Stone (MP3 player) and a GPS reciever.
