Hi List,

I saw the recent posts about file conversion services and started wondering
about the differences (when the final docs are read on the Braille Note)
between 2 pdf file conversion methods.

I'm a grad student and spend a lot of time reading articles, which are
originally found in pdf format. Until recently, I've had a sighted friend
convert all of my pdf files to Rich Text using OmniPage. This has worked very
well, but he'll be graduating in May, and the OmniPage software is the property
of the college. So once he graduates, we both lose access to it. I can't find
another student to take over his role b/c he and I now attend different
schools, and that software was only supposed to be used for students of that
school. My college, of course, does not have it.

Converting pdf's to plain text files with the Adobe Reader or by sending them
to [email protected] seems fairly straight-forward, so I think I could do that
without a sighted person's help. For those of you who have tried these methods,
are there any distinct disadvantages to these methods when reading the final
product (txt file) on the Braille Note (as compared to reading the rtf files
that I'm used to)?

Thanks so much.

Lauren
