Hi List, I've run into a file translation error and I'm wondering if there's any chance it can be fixed or if I should just start over with these files. I just sent off my BN to the shop to have its braille display repaired. Before sending it, however, I backed up the entire flash disk onto a compact flash card. I've managed to gain temporary access to another, yet older, BN while mine is in the shop. My BN was running Keysoft 7.2 whereas the temporary one is running Keysoft 7.0.
I attempted to restore all the files from my 7.2 BN to this 7.0 BN, and most seem to be working fine. The only ones I'm having trouble with are a few book chapters, which were saved as keyword braille files and contain parentheses in their file names. Perhaps they have something else in comon, but the parentheses are the only noticeable thing to me right now. When I open these files on the 7.0 BN, the info is there, but it's mixed in with at this code. For example, the first line of each file seems to have a series of capital "t"s. Has there been an error in either the backing up or restoring processes? Or is it because I'm trying to restore files from a 7.2 Keysoft system to a 7.0 system (though if that were the case, I don't get why all the files did encounter the same error). Do you guys think the files will be ok if I try to restore the copies from the compact flash card to the 7.2 BN when I get it back or will I need to start all over collecting these chapters in print and translating them to braille? I know this is a lot of questions, but I just can't explain why most of my files opened on this temporary BN with no trouble and yet these few are having so many problems. I'd love to hear your ideas on the situation. Though honestly, I have to say I'm getting a bit sick and tired of my braille note these days. It's getting to be more trouble than its worth here lately. Thanks guys. Lauren ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
