Hi, B.D,

I think HumanWare made a mistake when they decided to sell a screen reader for the Blackberry phones.

I, for one, wouldn't buy it. I've already got a cell phone, the Motorola Q, and screenreading software, MobileSpeak SmartPhone, so why would I want to change?

In my opinion, SmartPhones will never take the place of notetakers for the blind. Why? Because the keyboards on these phones are very, very small. I would not want to use my phone's keyboard for any length of time. I'm still trying to get my braille display to work with the phone. Then, I could input text through its keyboard. The BN won't work with my cell phone, so I can't use it to input text or read text. Besides, the layout of the keyboards on phones would turn off most people because braille style keyboards are more popular than QWERTY.

Cell phones change all the time! Who's to say that the screenreader Orator will continue to work with Blackberry phones? You're lucky if a cell phone lasts two years without needing to be replaced! SmartPhones are battery eaters! That makes them even more unfeasible as replacements for notetakers.

I seriously doubt the government would be willing to plunk out money for this new cell phone when so many cutbacks are happening.
