Dear Lauren,

In my experience, you can also use your existing PC's or laptop's ethernet connection, without having to go to the extra expense of purchasing a specialized CF ethernet card for the BrailleNote. To do this, you will need to install Microsoft Active Sync or, in the case of Windows Vista, Windows Mobil Device Center, on your computer. Then, establish a USB connection in-between the BrailleNote and the computer. At this point, you can either create a partnership, or simply connect to the computer as a guest.

On the BrailleNote, go into the Options, Connectivity, Create A New Dial-up or LAN Connection choice, and set the "Device to use?" entry to ethernet by pressing either Space with 3,4 or Ctrl with Space, depending on your keyboard type.

I hope that helps.

Subject: [Braillenote] Ethernet Connections

Hi Lauren:

To establish a LAN connection for your VoiceNote BT, you will
need an Ethernet Card (type Socket Low Power Ethernet (LPE)
EA2902-139, CF+ R/LP - E) - which has a ruggedized, i.e.
connected, cable.

You will also need access to a working ethernet computer network,
via a network capable PC, server, hub/switch/router or DSL modem.

When configuring the connection, use these specific settings:

At the "Device to Use?" prompt, select Ethernet Network. Using a
BT, just press 3-4 chord once to see the ethernet connection.
Usually, the "automatic ip" address is set to yes. You generally
don't need the proxy server. You just need a router, or modem
that lets you do dsl connections. Good luck.
