Dear Kerri,

In short, navigation. The DAISY format was created to give persons with reading impairments the same access to the print text as regular readers have. So, when a DAISY book is published, special tags or mark-ups are put into the book to allow a reader to jump directly to given points. In the best example, a reader could jump to pages, chapters, or any other separators a sighted person would use to navigate. In practice, of course, publishers sometimes don't put in as many mark-ups as they should. Regarding Bookshare, page navigation is usually a given, although individual chapter beginnings might not be marked.

From the Book Reader on the BrailleNote, press Space with T
repeatedly, Up and Down Arrows on QT units, to see what DAISY elements are available. For example, you might here something like Level 1, Page, and phrase. Once you've chosen an element to move by, page for example, press Space with Dots 1,3 or Space with Dots 4,6, Left and Right Arrows on QT units, to move left and right respectively.

Hope that helps,

AR

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] DAISY books

Hi listers,
Well since someone has brought up daisy I thought I'd ask a
question.
I understand the audio only version, but what exactly is the
point of a text
only version? What is the difference between the text version of
a daisy
book and a brf book besides formatting? I downloaded a daisy book
on
bookshare just to see what it did, and it was a text only version
( can't
find an audio only version to test out) and the braille note just
read it
like a regular book in brf format. So, what's the point of text
only daisy
books? Maybe someone could give me an example of when using a
daisy text
book would be suitable or if it's just a preference.
Kerri
