I've just tested, and MAC-based access control isn't enough to get the BrailleNote on. It must support WPA key exchange. (See below for more.)

What router were yu using before and why did you change?

I was using a WPN602 wireless access point. It, or its predecessor, was connected first to an FR114P wired NAT router when I was on cable, and later to Bloodstone, an old Linux box which, after upgrading to DSL, did routing and services for my machines, all of which now had public IPv4 addresses. Now, I find I need peace and quiet before embarking on some of life's more pressing concerns, taken in the form of convenience and no downtime when the machine goes, and have a Mac, which means that since moving again back to cable and outsourcing all my server requirements to Google and Amazon, I am once again in need of NAT and wireless access. Since most of today's routers are tripe, I picked on (thanks to a chance reminder by a friend) the Apple Time Capsule, essentially a backup device and Airport base station rolled into one. It's terrific, providing continuous backup for my Macs, except for two things: it doesn't do WEP (is that so terrible?) and it doesn't do UPnP (I've asked Apple but their own, IETF-standardised Nat- PMP protocol is better anyway, so I don't see it happening). It contains no modem, so you must plug one in. On DSL this means putting a DSL router/modem into halfbridge mode since there are rarely DSL modems (for technical reasons, it's no true ethernet bridging). But, it's perfect on cable where you're usually given a naked cable ethernet bridging modem, and the telephone service runs over the same fibre.

I *think* this answers your question. :-)

Cheers,
Sabahattin
