Hello Isaac:
Is this a new BN? What I'd try to do is just let the battery run flat by playing a book, or just using it. I know that the speech of a book won't help you due to your hearing, but let it run flat. Even when you get the "battery critical" message, just let it run. Then, charge it. In 7.0, it used to be that you press O chord, I chord, R with the unit plugged in. It would discharge, and then recharge. You shouldn't need to do that. The way you mentioned was doing O chord, I chord, then F with the battery unplugged. I'd just let it run down.
