I think these messages didn't come through, and this may be too
late. Did you do a reset with 456?

Subject: [Braillenote] MPower not responding, exam this afternoon
Hi List
As you can see from my subject line, I am rather desperate. My
MPower,
running KS 7.5 has crashed in the middle of a normal reset, and I
have an
exam (using my MPower) this afternoon!
The problem began when I tried to access a file on my USB. I got
an
exception command 3, access violation writing at (don't know the
number)
message. I retried several times, switched off and on (with USB
in and out)
performed a normal reset (with USB in and out). Still no luck
accessing the
file. I checked that the file was working on my PC (it was), and
tried some
other files. Sometimes they got the same exception command as
before, but
after a reset they worked, then didn't work.
I copied the entire folder (containing the files I need for my
exam) onto my
flashdisk, thinking that it might be a problem with the USB. I
then tried to
access the problem file, and another file which hadn't been a
problem. Both
times I got the message: "the process cannot access the file
because it is
being used by another process". I performed another normal
reset, and was
able to access the unproblematic files. However, when I tried
the problem
file I got the message: "exception command, access violation,
data
misalignment".
After returning to the main menu, I performed yet another normal
reset
(about the 10th in as many minutes). The unit beeped, displayed
"starting
keysoft" on the braille display, and froze. It did not chime.
So, does anyone have any miraculous suggestions that will
resurrect my
braillenote within the next six hours? As I said, I have an exam,
and have
very little chance of getting hold of another braillenote by
then.
I also obviously can't access my user manual, and don't know what
use it
will be anyway. This same thing happened to my PK once, and it
had to be
sent away to be repaired. I suspect the same thing will need to
happen
again, but I would like to think there is a solution. Indeed, as
soon as the
problem started I had a nasty feeling that the unit was about to
crash.
Funny how you have these feelings and still plug on until it
actually
happens, rather than seeking advice first!
I'm not sure if trying another reset while the unit is frozen in
the middle
of a reset is really a good idea. I'm not all that computer
savvy, I can
make them go and do what I want them to do when they are working,
but I'm
terrible at troubleshooting. It just seems like it would cause
even more
problems. But since the thing isn't working anyway, it can only
go uphill
from here.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
If you
suggest any resets (soft, hard or service) can you please tell me
exactly
how to do them (which buttons to press first, how long to hold,
etc)? I
haven't performed any of them on an mPower (I had a PK until very
recently)
and can't remember the process from the manual.
Thanks so much!
Kylie
