Hi Zach and others, Perhaps the following post would be helpful (which is my final say on this as a list member): I know what Zach is feelling: lists like these may help people connect to each other and create friendships. But, as with other organizations, it has social implications, particularly if a list is technical or the focus of this kind of list is on a specific product. Some people have used the "influential" part of list subscriptions to announce things that are irrelevant to the list. These folks believe that, just because they are subscribed to a list meant that they can post anything - so far as something that would be considered valid for one club and off-topic in others. So, let us be cautious as we take this type of approach to this type of list happenings. Zach and others, I understand how you feel: don't you really want to contribute to the list? I know that you are influential in some ways and have brought good suggestions about BrailleNote. But forwards of this kind, even ones done on behalf of a list member is, in my opinion, merits some education for you: in this case, two things: first, how to distinguish something that is valuable from what is not to the list, and second, understanding what the target audience would react if you post this kind of original post. Certaintly, you felt that it is off-topic, but I understand that occasional forwards is fine. And I presume that you would have thought of how the list would react about this post. Thanks. Sorry for ranting so long about education and so on... Zach, I hope you learn something out of this incident. Cheers, joseph
