Hi BrailleNote users and HumanWare staff, Today I would like to announce the Sixth BrailleNote Chat, which is scheduled for Monday, September 7, 2009. I'll provide the background, then give you the details.
Background It has been noted that the best way to interact with users and the manufacturer is a realtime communication, such as chats and webinars (a combination of words "web" and "seminar"). BrailleNote users, just like users of different products, felt that live audio chat was the best way to interact with fellow users and voice their concerns to HumanWare, especially about development of KeySoft and to outline users' findings with current KeySoft release. As a result, the current series of BrailleNote Chats, first started in 2007, began. This upcoming one will mark the sixth installment of this series. Date and Time After posting to this list regarding people's suggestions for chat dates and times, it was agreed that it should be held after KeySoft 8.0 was released (explained later). Also, few people noted that, for effective chat, more people should be included (meaning internationalization, including United States, Austrailia and New Zealand). So, the chat time and date as of now is as follows: Date: Monday, September 7, 2009 (Labor Day in the United States) Time: 5 pM Pacific, 6 PM Mountain, 7 PM Central, 8 PM Eastern, 0 UTC, Tuesday morning in Austrailia and New Zealand. The reasoning behind this the current time set are braod participation, possible availability of HumanWare staff and provide enough time for people to come up with questions.\ Chat aims and topics As this sixth chat highlights KeySoft 8.0 , the main focus of the chat will be the newly relased software. Also, with the latest development in the assistive technology industry, other topics such as SDK, JAWS 11 and BrailleNote and such will be covered. Additional topics will be presented if the participants brings it forward during the chat. Some of the topics as of now include: . KeySoft 8.0: its development, release, impact, goods and bads and general comments and suggestions. . BrailleNote's development: SDK, operating system upgradability, technical advances such as newer WiFi standard and Bluetooth and so forth. . Hardware: hardware suggestions, repairs and so forth. . Other assistive tech topics: BrailleNote's compatibility with Windows Vista and 7 (both for transferring files, contacts and calendar, as well as using it as a Braille display), JAWS 11 and BrailleNote and so forth. . Other miscellaneous topics during the chat. Hope it gives you a nice picture about the upcoming chat. Chat participation The previous chats were held at Blind Cool Tech (BCT) Chatroom (powered by Talking Communities) which can seat up to 25 people.
