Dear Alex,

"1. The sd slot: is it still in the bottom of the device like the
mPower, or is it built into the plastic shell like on a laptop or
cell phone? How do you get cards out?"

Built into the casing, a bit closer to the top than bottom as I recall. To eject a card, press in and release.

"2. Can you fold the top of the case under the unit like the
mPower or pk cases, or will the pocket and rubber feet get in the
way?"

Definitely, the three magnets on the bottom and cover hold it in place when folded, and this makes it very compact.

"3. How easily can it be removed from its case?"

There's one velcro latch on the back right-hand side, and the entire right side also latches to velcro. It opened up very easily, but also felt quite secure when cealed.

"4. Are the USB ports on the back surrounded by metal like those
on the mPower, or are they built in like on a laptop?"

Built in, slightly recessed. No more metal ports to cut your hands on or get smashed up. My rep said that was one of HumanWare's most frequent complaints about the mPower.

"5. Do you find the scroll wheel gets annoying while typing?"

Didn't bother me, although I suspect I'd turn it off anyway. My fingers never hit it though.

"6. Does the case add a lot of size to the Apex?"

I didn't think so. The leather seemed far more flexible and thin than on an mPower machine. Truthfully, I thought the case was just as well designed as the Apex itself, and I'm generally pretty tough on cases. I also liked the fact that the zippered pouch was on the outside, not hidden and hard to reach on the inside.

"7. Is the magnetic flap secure, or could you see it coming open
easily?"

Anything's possible, but it clamped pretty securely when I looked at it. There are three round magnets on both the blap and bottom of the case.

Hope that helps.

Subject: [Braillenote] Apex design questions

Hi all, but mainly those who have seen the Apex:
I have a couple questions, just out of my own, unquenchable curiosity about this device.

1. The sd slot: is it still in the bottom of the device like the mPower, or is it built into the plastic shell like on a laptop or cell phone? How do you get cards out?

2. Can you fold the top of the case under the unit like the mPower or pk cases, or will the pocket and rubber feet get in the way? If you cannot fold it:

3. How easily can it be removed from its case? Most school desks only have room for the unit, not for the unit plus the case's top flap, so hopefully you can take the Apex out easily.

4. Are the USB ports on the back surrounded by metal like those on the mPower, or are they built in like on a laptop?

5. Do you find the scroll wheel gets annoying while typing?

6. Does the case add a lot of size to the Apex? The mPower case makes the mPower seem much larger than it actually is and I wonder if the Apex's case will do the same.

7. Is the magnetic flap secure, or could you see it coming open easily?

Thanks for any answers!!
