You can have a username, different from your email, which must be set up only on a pc. You then have a facebook page that goes to your profile.

I am confused the email address one uses to log into facebook is
the user name I thought. I would like to try this though if I
can figure it out.

Instead of just your username, try:
[email protected]
where "user" is your FB username. I am still unable to test
this, but I read a blog post that said to do this instead of
entering only your username.

Subject: [Braillenote] Facebook's XMPP support

Hi all,

Yesterday, Facebook announced that you can sign in and chat with
your Facebook contacts from any XMPP/Jabber client you wish. A
number of users on the internet report success with logging in to
Facebook Chat in this way. The following settings seem to be the
ones you are supposed to use.

Username: your Facebook username. [NOTE: this is different from
the email address you use to log in to the Facebook website. If
you don't yet have a Facebook username, visit
facebook.com/username to create one.]
Password: your Facebook password
Server: chat.facebook.com
Port: 5222

There's one big caveat. For whatever reason, Keychat on my
BrailleNote mPower is picky about which services it likes, and it
doesn't like Facebook. It won't sign me in, insisting that it
"failed to sign on to instant messaging". Other Jabber clients,
such as Miranda, work fine.

Has anyone been able to log into Facebook Chat using Keychat?

Thanks,

Grant
