Hello list.
Can someone please read the below mails from HW tech support. Is it only me
who is hearing different things in the suggestions of Gabe Griffith and
Sarai, the tech support representatives?
I will also appreciate some input from the apex users on the list about
entering text on the computer in the terminal mode.
Best regards
TaraPrakash

Hello Tara:
I recommend that you contact a local dealer to arrange a demo of the QT,
and BT Apexes.

Thanks Sarai. I heard a suggestion in your last mail that you could use
qt keyboard as bt keyboard while using braille note as terminal for
screen readers, and use a s d etc keys as bt keyboard keys.
Unlike what we would like to believe, the documentation on braille
terminal in the user guide does not talk about keyboards separately.
I am looking to upgrade my braillenote and I am in the process to decide
on which keyboard to buy. I want to be sure that there is a difference
between bt and qt keyboards in terms of entering text and commands on my
computer. I prefer using qt keyboard, but I would also like to be able
to control computers from my braillenote. It specially helps when making
public presentations.
Sorry if it sounds too much of questioning.
Regards
Tara

Hello Tara: As I stated before,
you cannot use the QT Braillenote products for inputting data on a PC.
You can use the Braillenote as a Braille display with your computer. For
more information, please consult the Braille terminal section of your
Braillenote user guide. To access the Braillenote user guide, press
function o, followed by the letter u. Then press I for index, and read
the Braille terminal section. I also suggest you consult the Braille
display section of your screen reader's document for more information.

Hello. Thanks for your response.
Can you point me to a place where I can find documentation on using
braillenote for controling my computer from the braillenote? I remember
someone talking about keyboard emulator? But I was told it does not work
on qwerty keyboard. So what you are saying is that it works but you have
to use qwerty keyboard as bt board for entering text. I would like to
try that only if you could kindly provide me a website or something
where I can learn more about it.

Hello,
The BT and QT work the same for a braille display. The difference is in
using the keyboard of the mPower or apex for entry on the computer. The
BT is set up to be able to type in grade 1 braille on the computer when
the unit is in braille terminal mode. The QT can be used in braille mode
using keys a s d f and ; l k j as the 8 key braille keyboard. We do not
currently have the abillity to use the qwerty keyboard on the mPower or
apex as qwerty entry on a computer.
Kind regards,

Hello Sarai. Can you do so with BT keyboard on Apex?
Should I interpret your mail suggesting that BT keyboard works better as
a braille display than qt keyboard?
Thanks
Tara

Hello Tara:
You cannot use the QT keyboard on the Apex, nor on the mPower to enter
in data on the computer.

Dear Tech support representative.
I use MPower qt version 8. I was told that it's not possible to control
your pc using qt keyboard, even though you can use it nominally as
braille display. Whereas in the case of a bt keyboard, you can work on
your pc without moving fingers from your braille note keyboard. Can you
please confirm if it is true?
If it is true, does new Apex also have such difference in terms of qt
and bt keyboards while using them as braille display?
Thanks
Tara
