Hi folks,

Those of us who has an Apex would be glad to know that there is a "hack" to
changing startup sounds. We are "fooling around" with file and folder
manipulations.

Once again, just like mPower: USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! The author is not
responsible for damages.

You'll need:

. A short wav file dated later than March 1, 2010 (about two to
three seconds; preferably Windows startup sound).

. A storage medium such as a storage card.

Steps:

1. On the source storage medium, create a new folder.

2. Underneath this folder, create a new folder called Windows. It
needs to be newer than March 1, 2010.

3. Under this directory, put a wav file and rename it to "startup.wav"
(without quotes).

4. From Main Menu, go to utilities/Backup or Restore. Press R for
Restore.

5. At the source drive, select the source medium. At the folder name,
select the folder where Windows folder resides e.g. if the folder structure
was called start/Windows/startup.wav, select Start folder.

6. At the restore to prompt, select Flash Disk. After few moments
BrailleNote should say, "1 file copied." Perform a Warm Reset (Reset
button).

At this point, BN will copy the newer sstartup file, replacing the one
already there.

Note: if "startup.wav" didn't work, try "keysoft startup.wav" instead.
You'll also get into "system files need updating" prompts; perform
Clean/Clear Settings Reset (Reset with DOTS 4-5-6/JKL) to reinitialize this.

To restore the original one, you might need to reinstall the keySoft version
that you have, as it burns the ROM image.

Again, I strongly caution: don't do this unless you know what you are doing.

Cheers,

Joseph
