Hello. Here are the instructions. They are pretty lengthy. Please let me know if there is anything you do not understand. I have successfully done this 3 times with different mPower units an Braille Blazers.
Melissa Setting up the BrailleNote mPower with the Braille Blazer You will need the following cables and adapters before attempting to set up the BN to work with the Braille Blazer Serial cable that came with your BN (9-pin female on both ends) 9-pin male to 25-pin female adapter (found at electronic stores or on the internet) 25-pin gender changer (male on both ends) Steps for connecting the cables and adapters Step 1: Connect one end of the gender changer to the 25-pin serial port on the Braille Blazer. Make sure the clips for the parallel port are out of the way before connecting. Also be sure to "seat" the gender changer to the port by tightening the screws. Step 2: Connect the 25-pin female end of the adapter to the other male end of the gender changer that is now connected to the blazer. Be sure to tighten the screws. (Note: this is the only thing that will actually fit in to the connector.) Now you will have 2 adapters connected to the Blazer. Step 3: Connect one end of the Serial cable to the male end of the adapter sticking out of the back of the Blazer. It does not matter which end of the cable you use since both ends are the same. Step 4: Connect the other end of the Serial cable to the back of the BrailleNote mPower. Step 5: Turn on the Blazer Set the Blazer to receive information through the Serial port. Step 1: Press the 3 square buttons on the right side of the top of the blazer simultaneously. This puts the Blazer in to menu mode. You will hear the Blazer say "Configuration, speech Config." Step 2: Press the LINE-FEED (middle key) to open the "Printer Config" menu. Step 3: Press the "Formfeed" (key closest to you) to enter the menu. The Blazer should say "Printer Config, Port XXXX active." XXXXX can be either Serial, Parallel, or off. Step 4: Press the FORMFEED key until you hear the Blazer say "Serial." Step 5: Press the 3 keys simultaneously twice to exit the menu mode. The blazer should now be set to Braille using the serial port. Setting up the mPower to work with the Braille blazer Step 1: Start from the main menu. Step 2: Press w for the "Keyword menu" Step 3: Press E for Emboss. The BN will say "Emboss or setup embosser?" Step 4: Press S to setup the embosser preferences. Step 5: Choose your desired settings, but make sure that the embosser port is set to serial. You can do this by pressing S when you hear the Bn say "embosser Port." Step 6: Exit from this menu and confirm the changes by pressing Y for Yes when you are prompted. Step 7: from the main menu press w to go to the Keyword menu and Press e for Emboss. Step 9: Press e again and follow the prompts to emboss a file. You can choose the desired folder and file in the usual way. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sharonda Greenlaw Sent: Monday, March 22, 2010 11:07 AM To: peter wilkins Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Braillenote] Braille Blazer Settings My friend has a BrailleNote mPower QT model.
