Hi folks,
Well, I did upgrade to this new ROM image without any problems.
I did notice that email send/receive is faster; also, the SD card
format utility works by asking the user if he or she really wants
to format the card. Answering Y would perform it.
Besides those points, I'll try to answer and announce few things
in this post:
* PBWorks, A small update is now availible (still version 6.11).
In this release, the news on 9.01 is now up on News Center, as
well as new section on KeySoft Extensions under Program Library.
* SD card format utility: I'll upload the instructions (from the
user guide) up on the site as soon as possible (most likely next
week, as I need to compress instructions for both mPower and Apex
and to study for C++ algorithms...).
* Upgrade file: You need to put the hwi (HumanWare Installer)
file on the "root" i.e. "none" directory of a storage medium
e.g. SD cards, Flash, etc.
* Upgrade steps: Basically, the first step decompresses the ROM
image files, the second to fourth step loads the ROM files
(including those for Flash) and fifth configures the startup
behavior and registry (Alex or other programmers, am I right?).
The steps are similar to mPower's method of loading, erasing and
writing of bin file to ROM (I explained what those were already,
so please consult the archive for more information; if you want,
I'll repost it later).
* Backup: It all depends on two factors: the number and size of
files and folders on Flash, as well as speed of the target medium
to where backups are stored. If you are backing up to a USB
thumb drive, I expect the backup time to get longer than an SD
card. Also, SD cards have different read/write speeds, so be
careful when making backup to a slower SD card (basic ones).
However, in today's worries of data corruption, it is advisable
to make a complete backup of your BrailleNote to somewhere other
than your usual backup medium (perhaps onto an external hard
drive).
Well, hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph
