Hi,
Of course: Whereas a computer would see multiple periods corrctly, there would be some instances where Apex would see them as underscres (I've seen that before).
Cheers,
Joseph

Not true that you can't have multiple periods in a filename on a Windows computer, however. The final segment of the filename is treated as the extension, and the rest is considered part of the base name. I use UltraEdit for editing plain text files, and it will create backups of files as .c.bak or .txt.bak files as a matter of course. The Apex may have trouble with periods in filenames, but that is an Apex issue, not a
general computer issue IMHO.

Jerry

Hi,
I see why:
* Period is used to separate file name from extension. A file
extension is just an "identity card" that tells the computer what
the file is and what to do with it. Part of the problem was
using periods as part of the fsle name (I concur with Myrna's
observation here; if you need to use a period, I suggest
replacing this with underscore (dots 4-5-6).
* Slash: This is used to separate directories.
* Backspash: An evolved form of slash which displays directory
structure.
And bunch of others.
Well, hope this helps...
Cheers,
Joseph P.S. Tputting a period in there... I thought it would
cause x...

Hello,

I believe that you received that message because you used a
period as
part of the file name. You can never use a period, question
mark,
slash, star, nor a backslash when naming a file. This is true
when
working with any computer, whether it is the Apex or a PC. You
can try
renaming the file, but, I don't know if that will work. Instead
of a
period, you can use a dash or an under line character.

When creating a file for spanish class, on the apex I named it
242.1 (for page 242 exercise 1.) It was a microsoft word file, so
I renamed the file to 242.1.doc and then tried to open it. Upon
pressing enter at "review previous options" it said, "Class does
not exist." Then returned to keyword menu. Please can you
address this as soon as possible?
