You are still paying for all the development that goes into such a
specialized system, the license for Windows CE, the license for the
Eloquence software, the components (likely including a custom-made
motherboard, and those are not cheap), the research into upgrades and
fixes, and so on. Remember that, while a laptop may be a quarter the
price of a VoiceNote, there are hundreds of thousands of people buying
laptops, maybe millions, and there are not a quarter of that buying
VoiceNotes, so the price has to go up accordingly.
