Hi all,

Today I had the first major crash with my Apex and thought I really wasn't going to recover without returning it to be serviced, just over a week since receiving my second. (The first wouldn't transfer over the Oxford Dictionary file and had to be stripped down to the Windows operating system again to see what was going on ...)

Anyway, to get back to today's crash: I think, initially it was my own fault, of course. I was doing everything too fast ... I was in process of turning off the unit when I decided I'd just look something up on the WEB first ... I think at that point that I pushed the switch to the "on" position quickly, before it had actually turned off properly. ...

The result was that the braille display just looked as though the unit was turned off and there was no speech ... Nothing would come on at all ...

I worked my way through resets, more than once, and still got nowhere, even having performed a 456 reset. I almost gave up at this point and, having left the unit plugged in, I proceeded to use my husband's to complete what I was doing while I thought some more ... and wrote to our technical guys here in the UK.

Meantime, my husband took a look at the manual at work and in particular at the Troubleshooting section. We were reminded of the importance of plugging into power and then giving the BN 10 minutes before trying to turn off and on again. On this occasion, I thought the battery was going low as I'd looked a few minutes earlier and it was at 18% but didn't think it was really out, but anyway, we did connect and, as I'd failed to get started again straight away, we waited the long ten minutes or so. At that point I tried the Clear Settings (C3) reset again and it sprang to life!

I had seriously thought something had really failed but it proved to be worth perseverance ...

I hope this might help you the next time you crash!

PS: I didn't lose any data, I just just needed to fix some settings once again, including time and date, time zone and to reset my thumb keys as I have a custom reset which suits my preference.

I hope this might be helpful some time to someone.
