First, do NOT search for the iPod with the apex and pair them in the usual way. Follow these steps exactly, and make sure you have the latest iOS installed on the iPod. Also, make sure you have not changed the name of your bn under the settings in the connectivity menu. If you have, erase devname.sys in the dictionaries folder and reset to restore the name to its default, which is how the iPod will search for an Apex.
1. Turn on bluetooth on the Apex. As soon as it is on and you are asked if you want to search for devices, exit that menu and open the braille terminal, selecting bluetooth as the port. 2. On the iPod, go to settings, then accessibility, then VoiceOver, then braille (it is near the bottom, so you will have to page down one or two times). 3. A list of braille displays will appear. Select your Apex. If bluetooth is not enabled on the iPod, a warning will pop up and you can select to turn on bluetooth right there. 4. An entry for a pin number will come up on the iPod, but it will go away quickly so be ready to type fast. Enter four zeros in a row on the iPod. The Apex will not seem to be doing anything (no prompt will appear, you should just be seeing the blank terminal), but after a moment braille will appear and you are all set. After this first pairing, re-pairing should be easier; just have bluetooth enabled on both devices and go into terminal mode on the Apex, though you may have to turn off and turn on VO to get it working. I recommend going to settings and finding the "tripple click home" option, and setting it to toggle VO. This way, you can just tripple click the home button on the iPod and VO will turn on if it is off and vice versa. Also note that braille input and output will work even with the screen curtain on and/or speech off (to toggle speech, tripple tap two fingers, and I think screen curtain is tripple tapping with three fingers).
